If you are going to be in the Fort Myers area and want something fun to do check out the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. The homes are located along the water and the grounds and garden are absolutely beautiful. I am a history buff, but I went there because I had heard the grounds were so beautiful.
On our spring break, during our trip to Sanibel Island, we made a stop off at the Edison & Ford Winter Estates. There is a fee to get in and it is based on what all you want to do. Self-guided tours of the grounds is the most affordable option, which is what we did. But the do also offer guided tours. For this tour they give you a device to use as you walk around. You put the button that corresponds with the number location where you are at the time. It tells you the information about that specific spot. It worked great!
It's a really neat place to be able to see the winter estates of both Henry Ford and Thomas Edison. You can stroll the beautiful grounds, see the workshop, walk through the garden, and look into the homes. It's great to see how they lived and how beautiful the area is. There is such an array of different types of trees, plants, and flowers. I loved the porch on Thomas Edison's winter home. What an amazing opportunity it must have been to sit out on that wonderful porch and just look off at the nature that surrounded the home.
The kids had a great time also strolling the grounds, viewing the different types of trees and plants, and seeing the homes. This is a great opportunity that combines nature and history. Two thumbs up for the Edison & Ford Winter Estates in Fort Myers. You can learn more about the place by visiting their site here.
"Non-violence leads to the highest ethics, which is the goal of all evolution. Until we stop harming all other living beings, we are still savages." - Thomas Edison
