Haw Creek Preserve in Flagler County - Bunnell - hiking, kayaking, and more
Last weekend we were looking for a place to get out into nature that we hadn't yet explored. I came across Haw Creek Preserve, which is located in Flagler County in Bunnell. It's a nice drive back to Haw Creek Preserve with a lot of nature all around. You also pass by fields of cabbage that belong to the largest cabbage producer in the country.
Haw Creek Preserve is a beautiful peaceful place that is a hidden gem. It's hidden back in the woods behind acres of cabbage farmland. The Haw Creek Preserve is right on the Haw Creek, where you can kayak and launch a boat. The hike is a bit on the shorter side, but beautiful and is great for kids. The whole thing is on a great boardwalk. The total distance round trip is a little less than 1.5 miles. Along the boarwalk there are turnoffs that take you over to the Haw Creek (doing them is included in the 1.5 mile roundtrip calculation). You have some great views and there are a few benches to sit down and enjoy it.
The boardwalk leads back to an open field area where there is tent camping allowed. The walk takes you over some wetlands, it's a beautiful site all around, and it's shaded by the natural canopy created by the trees. The boardwalk is suitable for a stroller and a wheelchair. The park itself also features a restroom and a pavilion with picnic tables, so you can plan to pack a picnic and eat it after your walk.
You can get more information about Haw Creek Preserve here.
Here are some pictures I took when we spent a few hours at Haw Creek Preserve:
