Painted Bunting in Merritt Island, Florida

Painted-bunting

For several years now I have wanted to spot a painted bunting in the wild. It's a beautiful bird, with the male having a rainbow type pattern (and the female being green). The males are gorgeous! Today, while we were at Merritt Island at the visitors center we went out back to take the short stroll on the boardwalk. There were birds everywhere! Low and behold, there were three male painted buntings and one female. At least a dozen people were snapping photos because it's so rare and awesome to see them out in nature. Here's a picture I took with two males on one of the bird feeders out behind the visitor center. Awesome! I can check this off of my list!
