Hiking Hillsborough River State Park
While camping at Lazydays RV Resort in the Tampa area, we decided to go hiking at Hillsborough River State Park, located in Thonotosassa, Florida. The park offers numerous shorter hikes that you can take, some of which will take you by the river. We took the Hillsborough River via Baynard Trail.
This was a great trail! There is a suspension bridge and some other smaller bridges that you cross along the way. You get close enough to see the river and hear it. We really liked the trail, which is a loop. The one thing that was horrible and kept us from doing more trails was that the bugs were out in full force and we were being ambushed, even with bug repellent on. Typically speaking, hiking season in Florida runs from around November through March. We were in November, but we hadn't yet had any colder days to bring down the bug activity.
We would have hiked another trail after finishing this one, which was around 1.4 miles, but the bugs had us heading back to the car after we were done with this one. If you are in the area it's a great park to check out for hiking. The park entrance fee at this time was $6 per vehicle.
