Seminole Rest in Oak Hill
If you enjoy checking out some of the Native American shell mounds (middens) around the state, you will want to make a stop at Seminole Rest when you are in the area. Seminole Rest is located on River Road in Oak Hill. It's a small, place but it's nice and worth checking out if you are in the area.
Seminole Rest is the site of an old shell mound, which was later a private residence for decades. The family later sold the property to the government and it was turned into an historic site. The property sits right along the banks of Mosquito Lagoon. There is a 1/2 mile long paved trail that is wheelchair accessible. You can stroll the trail, which is a loop around the property. You can stop along the way, viewing signs about the property. The home is still there and there's a dock you can walk out on. The breeze coming off the river is amazing. Wow! There's just an amazing breeze coming off that river!
There are a couple of picnic tables on the property if you want to take a lunch or stop to enjoy the views. It's free to visit Seminole Rest.
Seminole Rest is located at 207 River Rd, Oak Hill, FL
